Impact Seal Beach

11/16/2009

Impact Seal Beach rocked as 132 members of SeaCoast Grace Church Seal Beach, Grace Community Church, Damascus Church and First United Methodist Church united to give back to the City of Seal Beach. Through service projects that included painting, planting and park clean up, participants from each of these churches met at Marina Park in the morning for a brief rally and to gather for their assignments. From there, the teams dispersed to clean and paint area Seal Beach signs, plant flowers in Eisenhower Park, plant 24 trees in Gum Grove Park as well as sweep many area parks for litter. The vision of Impact Seal Beach was to promote, facilitate and lead high quality community service projects that would help others experience God through the service of his people. Through community involvement it was our hope that those who participated in Impact Seal Beach would have the opportunity to share the love of Jesus and build authentic Christ honoring relationships that help others experience God and change. In many ways that mission was accomplished as we worked shoulder to shoulder with those who had little or no involvement in our churches, shared with others in the community what we were doing and also got some press coverage in the Seal Beach Daily News. Additionally, several local merchants, including Brita’s Garden, Bogarts and The Crema Café also helped partner with Impact Seal Beach in various ways. Volunteer lead, Jeff Shaw, summarized the day in an email to several key leaders by saying, "What a wonderful opportunity we all contributed to, reminding our church communities, and the community of Seal Beach, of the larger church we all play, pray, and live for." Thanks to everyone who served and had a part in this incredible day!

Join a Small Group

08/05/2009

At SeaCoast Grace Church there is no one size fits all strategy in our Small Groups ministry.  You are an individual with different tastes.  Some of you like coffee in the morning, others like diet coke.  Some of you like long walks on the beach, the rest of us like sitting at home on a couch and watching pictures of the beach on the Travel Channel.  For that reason we have four different types of groups to choose from:

Sermon Series Groups

Do you want to take the message on Sunday Morning to a much deeper level?  These groups are all about taking what you hear out of the 30 minutes that you sit in church into your everyday life.  If you are interested in joining a group like this take a few minutes to browse our groups.

Women’s Groups

Let’s face it many of you ladies like to talk, so here is your chance to get a group of friends that you can mingle with and challenge you in your faith. We have groups that meet weekly and monthly depending on your schedule. Check out our current women’s groups.

Men’s Groups

SeaCoast Grace Church is a church of small groups. Small groups of people meet in homes throughout the area for the purpose of building relationships, encouraging one another, learning together and praying for one another.

Want to know what’s in it for you? Need more information? Or are you ready to take a step and join a group?

Support & Recovery Groups

Still struggling to get over some of your hurts, habits, or hang ups?  Try one of our support groups or recovery groups which can help you to overcome all the pressures that you face daily.

Make it easy for me to find a group!

The Noticer

07/16/2009

Last week while I was on vacation, I read The Noticer by Andy Andrews. It's a heartwarming story of a man named Jones, who notices things in life and comes along others to offer a little perspective in and through life's challenges. I have to admit, while the storyline is clever, heartfelt and inspirational, I felt that much of the wisdom in the book has been simply high-jacked from others wisdom and simply put into a storyline format in an effort to prevent plagiarism. However, as is my fashion, I often take a few minutes to debrief on the book, so I thought I would share a few of the inspirational quips that may offer each us a little perspective on life's journey. In some ways, these quips go along with the challenge we laid out in our Hi, Average series and how God wants us to live extraordinary lives for him and not settle for less than best. Remember, young man, experience is not the best teacher. Other people's experience is the best teacher. A grateful perspective brings happiness and abundance into a person's life. A true friend holds you to a higher standard. A true friend brings out the best in you. If you are breathing, you are still alive. If you are alive, then you are still here, physically on this planet. If you are still here, then you have not completed what you were put on earth to do. If you have not yet completed what you were put on earth to do, that means your very purpose has not yet been fulfilled. If your purpose has not yet been fulfilled, the the most important part of your life has not yet been lived. And if your most important part of your has not yet been fulfilled, [that is your proof of hope]. Everybody wants to be on the mountaintop, but if you remember, mountaintops are rocky and cold. There is no growth on the top of a mountain. Sure, the view is great, but what's a view for? A view just gives us a glimpse of our next destination - our next target. But to hit that target, we must come off the mountain, go through the valley, and begin to climb the next slope. It is in the valley that we slog through the lush grass and rich soil, learning and becoming what enables us to summit life's next peak. While there are some good reminders for us in this book about persevering in the face of adversity, I am grateful for the eternal truths in God's Word that offer me hope and perspective and for the cloud of witnesses who encourage me each day to run the race that God has marked out for me (Hebrews 12:1-3).

Connecting in Community

06/30/2009

Welcome to the Seal Beach Campus blog! If you haven't figured it out yet, I am big on community and big on using technology to bring community together. In creating this space for connection and communication, I am hopeful that this blog will not only bring us together, but that it will also be a place of encouragement and challenge in our walk with Jesus. My initial plans are to update this blog on a weekly basis with thoughts related to the campus, ministry updates, guest spotlights and other tidbits that I hope will be helpful in your journey of faith. Blogging is best experienced and most beneficial when readers, like yourself, leave comments in order to foster interaction between the community of users,so we invite you to post your comments, interact with the other users and ask your questions. So today, chime in by letting me know what future topics you would like to see discussed on the blog. And bookmark this page on your browser or RSS feed so you keep current with the conversation. God bless!
